Download a ready file
Outlook.com and Hotmail signs in through your email app, so a profile file cannot carry it. Use the steps below, or save the settings as a text file.
Before you start
- IMAP and POP are off by default in Outlook.com. Turn IMAP on in your Outlook.com settings before you add the account.
If it will not connect
- Password not recognised: Microsoft says you may need an app password, mainly for smart devices and apps that cannot do modern sign in.
- Sending fails: check the outgoing server is smtp-mail.outlook.com on port 587 with STARTTLS. The incoming server name is a different one.
2. Which email app are you adding it to?
Checked 27 October 2026 against Microsoft Support: POP, IMAP, and SMTP settings for Outlook.com. Providers change these, so if a setting fails, the provider's own page wins.
