Shopify profit margin and fees calculator

Made for stores in India and other countries without Shopify Payments, where every order pays a gateway fee and Shopify's own per-order fee. Enter your numbers to see the profit you really make.

Where is your store?

Shopify Payments is not available in India. Every order pays your payment gateway's fee and Shopify's own per-order fee for using an outside gateway, and the fee depends on your plan.

Replace the example numbers with yours. The plan fees are Shopify’s published rates; gateway rates differ by provider, so use your own.

How we can help

Margin is made in three places: price, cost and ads

The number that moves most is usually ad spend per order, and it depends on tracking you can trust. We work on the parts of this sum that you can change.

Questions

Subtract every cost from the price without GST, then divide the profit by that price. The costs are product, shipping, packaging, payment fees, returns, advertising and a share of your plan and apps. This calculator does the sum and shows where each rupee goes.

Margin is profit as a share of the selling price. Markup is profit as a share of the product cost. A product costing 450 that sells for 900 has a 100 percent markup and a 50 percent margin.

Return on ad spend is the revenue an ad earns per rupee spent. Break-even ROAS is the point where the order earns exactly what the ad cost, so you make nothing. It equals the price divided by your profit before ads.

No. Shopify Payments is not available in India, or in many other countries. Stores there take payments through an outside gateway such as Razorpay, and pay two fees on every order: the gateway's own fee and Shopify's per-order fee for using an outside gateway.

It is a percentage of each order, set by your plan. On Shopify's pricing page in October 2026 it was 2 percent on Basic, 1 percent on Grow, 0.6 percent on Advanced and 0.2 percent on Plus. This calculator fills it in when you pick your plan, and you can change it.

The plan fees are Shopify's published rates, and in India Shopify adds GST to its plan and fees. Gateway rates differ by provider and by payment method, so the 2 percent shown is an example. Replace it with the rate on your own statement.

If you are GST registered you may be able to claim it back as input credit, in which case set that box to 0. If not, it is a real cost and should stay in.

Tick the split box and enter, for each of UPI, cards, net banking and wallets, and cash on delivery, the share of your orders, the gateway fee, and the share that come back or fail. Cash on delivery also takes a handling fee. The calculator then shows profit per order for each method and a blended figure for your real mix.

No. Cash on delivery is a manual payment method, and Shopify's per-order fee for outside gateways applies to online payments. It also goes through no gateway, so it pays no gateway fee. Check your own Shopify invoice to be sure.

No. The sums are done inside your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to us.

Profit thinner than the sum suggests?

Send us your numbers. We look at ad cost, conversion and tracking, which is where store margin is usually won or lost, before there is any quote.

No pitch deck, no obligation. Bring your URL and we will look at it together.
