Whois lookup

Enter a domain to see its registrar, age, expiry, status codes, name servers, DNS records and where it is hosted, in plain English.

Reads the public registration record and live DNS. Takes a few seconds.

Questions

A search of the public registration record for a domain. It shows the registrar the domain was bought through, when it was registered, updated and when it expires, its status codes and its name servers. Registries now publish this through a standard called RDAP, which this tool reads.

The registration date in the record is the domain's age. This tool shows it as years and months. A domain's age says how long it has been registered, not whether the site on it has existed that long.

Sometimes. Privacy law and registrar privacy services now hide the owner's name, email and phone number for most domains. When the registry does publish owner details, this tool shows them. When it does not, it says the details are hidden, which is normal and not a sign of anything wrong.

They describe what is allowed on the domain. Transfer, delete and update prohibited codes are locks that protect it. Hold means the domain is switched off in DNS. Redemption period and pending delete mean it has expired and may be released. The tool explains each code in plain English.

The domain you look up is logged so we can see which tools are used, as our privacy policy describes. Nothing else about you is collected, and the lookup reads only public records.
