Download a ready file
An Apple profile adds this account to Mail on a Mac or iPhone in one step. Type your address, download, open the file, and enter your password when asked. The file holds no password.
How to use the file
On a Mac
- If you already added this account in Mail and it fails, remove it first: Mail, Settings, Accounts, select it, click the minus button.
- Double-click the downloaded .mobileconfig file, usually in your Downloads folder.
- Open System Settings, General, Device Management (on older macOS: Privacy and Security, Profiles). Double-click the profile, click Install and enter your Mac login password.
- Enter your email password when asked. Use an app password if your provider needs one.
- Open Mail. The account appears with its folders.
On an iPhone or iPad
- Open this page in Safari, enter your address, tap Download and tap Allow.
- Open Settings and tap Profile Downloaded near the top (or General, VPN and Device Management).
- Tap Install, enter your passcode, then enter your email password when asked.
The file is built in your browser from the tab selected above, and holds no password. It is not signed, so Apple shows it as Not Signed. It only fills in the servers: your provider still has to accept your login, so switch IMAP on and use an app password where the notes above say so.
Before you start
- Create the app specific password first, because your normal Apple password will not be accepted.
If it will not connect
- Sign in fails with the short name: try your full address, or the other way round.
- SSL error: Apple suggests trying TLS, or STARTTLS for sending.
2. Which email app are you adding it to?
Checked 27 October 2026 against Apple Support: Mail settings for other email clients. Providers change these, so if a setting fails, the provider's own page wins.
